"I am running to ensure that the opportunities that were available for me, are there for all Americans!"
My name is Santiago Ramos and this is my background. I am an immigrant Hispanic American and bilingual. I came to America with my family when I was 9 years old.
My family went into the restaurant business and from my family, I learned to be reliable, dependable and hardworking. I became a United States citizen when I was 23.
I am the eighth of nine children, and the first in my family to attend and graduate from college, with a BA in accounting from the University of Washington, and MBA from Western Washington University. This education was only a dream when I arrived to the United States.
Increasingly, I became interested in our political system, and as a graduate of the Institute for a Democratic Future (IDF), I interned in United States Senator Maria Cantwell’s office. It was a dream come true and an opportunity I could never have imagined as an immigrant.
It was an honor to be one of the three nominees that were interviewed by the King County Council to replace Representative Ross Hunter in the State Legislature back in September of 2015.
I have lived in King County for 25 years. I served as chair of the City of Kirkland’s Human Services Advisory Board, and currently serve on the boards of the University of Washington Alumni Association Multicultural Alumni Partnership and the Eastside Corps. of the Salvation Army. I am the owner, founder and the designated broker at Red Rock Real Estate, which offers realty and insurance services.
I am a former chair of the 48th Legislative District and current State Committeeman to Washington State Democratic Central Committee (WSDCC), serving on the Rules Committee and the Hispanic Caucus. I had the opportunity to shadow Representative Ross Hunter in Olympia and observe how he navigated the complexities of the legislature. I want the opportunity to represent Washington State in the House of Representatives. I am a strong listener, a quick learner, and I perform better in difficult tasks.
We have an opportunity to send a fresh perspective to DC. I am hardworking, a small business owner, and a concerned taxpayer with strong values just like you. As a representative, I will work with my colleagues to find common ground so we can pass comprehensive immigration reform, fight the threat of ISIS, reverse the economic disparity in our country, rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, and protect our environment. I grew up in Washington State and I understand the concerns of the community.
I look forward to letting you know more about me, and for me getting to know more about you.
